Hi, I'm Marybeth! I'm an early-thirties Momma of one teenaged boy. I enjoy a lot of things... crafting, writing, reading, but my biggest passion is photography. I'm excited to share with you a little bit about what photography means to me.
People often tell me, "I always knew you were going to be a photographer because you were always taking pictures." It's true - I have had a camera in my hand for as long as I can remember. But, for me, photography will always be about much more than simply "taking pictures". As a photographer, my goal will always be to create photographs. You may be asking, but aren't they the same thing? What magic indicator determines a picture's worthiness as a snapshot or a photograph? The answer can be summed up quite easily with one of my favorite photography related quotes.
“There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment.” — Robert Frank
This is where I urge you not to sell yourself short. Cameras are "cheap" these days. Almost anyone can buy a nice camera and take nice enough pictures. This is a good thing, in fact, it's a great thing! But, photography is art, much like music is art. In addition to creating beautiful photographs, a good photographer, like a good musician, will create something that speaks to your soul. A good photographer will capture the raw humanity and emotion present in even the smallest of moments, allowing you to relive them over and over again in real time. As cliché as it sounds, there is nothing more valuable than a moment captured in time.
